FOE has curated a group show paying homage to monsters. The idea of monsters is as old as civilization and what society defines as monstrous changes and morphs through time and culture. Depending on when and where you grew up, it’s likely some version of monster, urban myth or story shaped your fears and nightmares. No one escapes this rite of passage. Come out to see how 20 different artists from westernmass to Japan interpret their own unique fears, repulsions and pleasures. It may sound scary, but monsters are fun too, and fears confronted (or exercised) are fears conquered.

An Afternoon with NemO & Space Junk Destroyer

Yesterday was a great day! I got to hang out with my buddy Mike "NemO" Mendez and brought over my
Space Junk Destroyer sculpt for him to check out! I explained to Mike that I wasn't 100% happy with the sculpt, I felt it needed something more... and this is what Mike came up with so far

I was able to shoot some video while Mike was sculpting. I used the Super 8 iPhone app, which shoots video like the old school super 8 cameras.. pretty neat!

Mike is an awesome friend and sculptor! I can't thank him enough for helping me out with the sculpt! With Mike's revisions to the sculpt, it will be possible to easily cast it in resin!

"Dem Bonez" is the name of a vinyl platform created by the godfather of graffiti, SEEN. The show is curated by Elite Gurdz's Mr Den, and this is what he to share about the origins of the show:
STORY OF DEM BONEZ FROM MR DEN: "A few years ago SEEN wanted to produce these but the company that was making them couldn't get it quite right so SEEN pulled the plug on the whole project (That's why I decided to name the show "Dem Bonez the Reconstruction".) Being that I've worked with him for about 13 years, he became a mentor of sorts so I couldn't just let the awesome platform not see the light of day. One day I approached him with the idea of letting me curate (Nemo co-curated) a custom show with all the samples that was tucked away in some little dark corner collecting dust, he said, in his Richie SEEN manner "Hey slick, take em' all. Do whatever ya want wit em'."
And the rest they say, is "legend"...

TAG, Mark Nagata and Fig-lab have gathered together over 70 of the best Kaiju and toy artists in the world to customize Toy Art Gallery and Maxtoy Company’s first collaborative figure project. Opening reception is February 26th 2011 from 7-11 PM. Show runs Feb. 26 – March 26.

Above is my custom alien argus for the show, Painted with Monster Kolor paints. In Early January I had surgery on my right wrist and hand for carpal tunnel and pronator teres syndrome. This is my first custom since the surgery and I'm happy to say I'm recovering exceptionally well. Big Thanks to Mark Nagata and the Toy Art Gallery crew for putting me on the show!

Here's the second part of my collab with GUUMON creator Brian Mahony! Brian has asked me to custom paint his latest figure Daigomi! When i first received the Krunk figures, I immediately fell in love with the sculpt! It has amazing texture and can be left as is or has the possibility of being sculpted on. It's a pretty versatile figure.

Then I got my hands on the Daigomi figure, and let me tell you this sculpt has so much going on it's a virtual playground for a painter! The Daigomi is a huge pile of trash, seriously it is! Every inch of the figure is covered in garbage! There's pipes, barrels, oil drums, tires, and pumpkins! If that wasn't enough there are even people trapped in this heaping trash monster! It was a real pleasure to work on these figures as well as the Krunk figures Brian sent me too!

All 6 of my custom GUUMONS will be on display at Zakka on Oct 9,2010 for the Daigomi custom show! If you missed the custom Krunk figures I painted they were originally posted here! Big thanks to Brian Mahony of GUUMON for hitting me about the collab and for getting me on this awesome show!

What a show and what an adventure! This video almost didn't happen and it's a good thing my homie Yosiell Lorenzo aka Project Detonate ( http://www.projectdetonate.com) was with me, because Aldrich wouldn't allow video or pictures to be taken unless a person was present in the shot! I was able to sneak a few shots in without Yosiell in frame. Thanks so much man for the help!

This first solo museum exhibition of the work of Brooklyn-based artist and designer Brian Donnelly, a.k.a. KAWS, includes his most recent paintings, sculptures, and drawings, as well as a survey of his iconic street art, apparel, product and graphic designs.

KAWS's first aesthetic influences came from skateboarding, as did his familiarity with New York City. Around 1991, he started marking his name in different areas of New Jersey and Manhattan. By the time he finished high school, he was mostly focused on graffiti and started intervening on advertising billboards. While exploring new strategies and locations for his work, he obtained a tool for opening bus shelter advertisement boxes. This allowed KAWS to seize the posters, integrate his work, and then replace them. He added an inflated skull with crossed bones and X-ed-out eyes; sometimes the skull was part of a serpentine-looking body that wrapped around the models, a blend that was humorous and daring. Word got around, and when it came to the point where the posters were pulled down and collected almost as soon as KAWS had replaced them, he decided to move on. Next he channeled his creativity into his studio practice, as well as products he developed and distributed on his own and in his boutique in Tokyo, OriginalFake, in partnership with Medicom Toy. Hey everyone,

I haven’t sculpted in quite sometime and decided this weekend to break out the super sculpey and see what I could with! Below are pics of my new Kaiju-esque figure that has no name as of yet. I also threw in a size comparison shot with some large and small kaiju pieces so you guys can see how big he is. The sculpt is a little bigger than the normal fight figure size for kaiju.

Hey everyone! Great news the Bop Dragon blanks arrived today from Rumble Monsters So I decided to take a few pics of these guys before I start painting them up.

Now I know alot of you have been asking for more details on the run, so here is some new info to tide you over till the release!

The run will consist of 22 Bop Dragons, 7 will be one colorway, 7 another colorway, 4 of these will be one-offs, 2 will be going to Rumble Monsters in Japan, and finally 2 of these will be made into a special homage set, and let me tell ya it's gonna knock your socks off!

I will be participating in the upcoming Super7 Kaiju Show "It Came From Skullbrain". The show will be taking place on April 13th at Super7's retail store in San Francisco, CA! This week on Toybreak, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was picked for their Cool Custom of the Week segment! I would like to thank the gang at Toybreak / October Toys George, Ayleen and Matt for the picking my customs for the segment. The custom dunny was for a secret santa custom trade that took place recently on the October Toys forum. The custom gwin George comissioned from me.
